Reiki can be a powerful ally on your spiritual path

What is a Reiki session like?

You will lay comfortably on a massage table, fully clothed (except for shoes). Typically, soft music will be playing in the background; the session is otherwise silent. Of course, you are encouraged to communicate your needs to the practitioner during the session, such as if you are too cold or too warm. Clients experience a sense of relaxation and peace; some even fall asleep! This is perfectly normal and ok; you will still receive the benefits of Reiki whether sleeping or awake. Before and after the session, your practitioner will answer any questions you may have, discuss your experience and/or share any feedback. Please allow an additional 10 - 15 minutes at your first session.

Is Reiki hands on, like a massage?

Yes, and no. Your practitioner will gently lay hands on your body in specific places, with a few exceptions such as the throat and private areas. You may request a session to be completely hands-off, in which case the practitioner will hold her hands an inch or two above your body.

Regardless, you may experience a very slight tingling, heat, or energy, or nothing at all. The sensations or lack thereof are not an indicator of Reiki, it is just how your body uniquely senses energy.

How many sessions do I need?

A single session is a great place to start, especially if you are new to Reiki; you will certainly receive benefit from just one session. However, the benefits of Reiki will compound with regular sessions. In all likelihood, your conditions did not develop overnight, and your treatment should not be considered “one and done”. Regular sessions can be scheduled at whatever interval works best for you.

What should I do after a session?

Since you will feel deeply relaxed, make sure you are fully alert and grounded before driving. Usually, the walk to your car is sufficient for this or just take a few extra minutes before starting the engine. It is beneficial to allow for quiet time the day or evening after your session as you continue to process the experience. Your practitioner will provide additional self-care tips at your session to help you get maximum benefit.
